I love making bread. In fact, making bread is not as good as just the SMELL of freshly baked bread. On the weekend, I wanted to do something that wasn’t just clearing our backlog of washing or wrapping presents. It needed to be something that said HOLIDAY + CELEBRATION, so, Darren suggested we make beer bread.
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups self-raising flour
- 1 beer
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
Optional extras / variations we have tried
- olives, parmesan and oregano
- cheese and thyme
- tomato paste, onions and oregano cooked together and mixed in, plus olives
Method
- Preheat oven to 180-190 C and grease your loaf tin.
- Sift the dry ingredients together.
- Pour the beer in slowly, and mix through to make a gloop.
- Make sure the gloop is really well stirred.
- Pour into the loaf tin and put it in the oven for 35 minutes.
- After 35 minutes pull it out and baste it with some butter. Put it back in for another 10 minutes.
- Remove, cool, cut, butter and enjoy!
