beer bread

December 27th, 2006 No Comments

I love making bread. In fact, making bread is not as good as just the SMELL of freshly baked bread. On the weekend, I wanted to do something that wasn’t just clearing our backlog of washing or wrapping presents. It needed to be something that said HOLIDAY + CELEBRATION, so, Darren suggested we make beer bread.

beer bread

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups self-raising flour
  • 1 beer
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Optional extras / variations we have tried

  • olives, parmesan and oregano
  • cheese and thyme
  • tomato paste, onions and oregano cooked together and mixed in, plus olives

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180-190 C and grease your loaf tin.
  2. Sift the dry ingredients together.
  3. Pour the beer in slowly, and mix through to make a gloop.
  4. Make sure the gloop is really well stirred.
  5. Pour into the loaf tin and put it in the oven for 35 minutes.
  6. After 35 minutes pull it out and baste it with some butter. Put it back in for another 10 minutes.
  7. Remove, cool, cut, butter and enjoy!
